Gardner’s Mattress & More, located in Lancaster, began a charity initiative in January called Gardner’s Gives Back, to collect food for local food banks and pet supplies and items for local pet and animal shelters. A Gardner’s Gives Back bag is given to each customer who purchases a mattress, in order to place any non-perishable food item in it, such as canned soup, boxed rice, canned vegetables, canned fruits and boxed meals. On the day of the mattress delivery, the Gardner’s delivery team will ask the customer for the Gardner’s Gives Back donation bag. Donations are gladly accepted—the initiative is not just for customers.

Once a month, Gardner’s Mattress & More will donate all the food items that were collected to a charity, and Gardner’s will make a matching food donation, pound for pound, of all collected food items.

“My business partner, Ben McClure, and I wanted to do something to give back to the community that supports us, supports our families, our business, our team members’ families,” explains co-owner Jeff Giagnocavo. “We realized that each week, we are in a lot of our customers’ homes, and could take those individual, smaller moments to put together something very, very big. Gardner’s Gives Back is something that everyone can participate in. Our mission is, ‘Do more in Lancaster County each and every day to lift others up that need a helping hand,’” he shares.
