Wegmans Harrisburg Helping Our Community Stay Healthy

Jan 31, 2015 01:36PM ● By Dave Korba

According to Wegmans Harrisburg assistant store manager Bob Palmer, Wegmans grocery store chain owner and CEO Danny Wegman is known as a healthy living advocate and community-minded individual. His business is a reflection of those values and his life philosophy trickles down into every Wegmans store.

Palmer affirms that Wegmans employees share those values. “We’re all about empowering our customers to lead healthier, better lives,” he says. “Wegmans employees are passionate people working toward a common goal. We care, we listen, we make a difference in every community we serve.” Palmer has been working in the grocery business for decades. He began working for Wegmans more than seven years ago because it was a company that shared his beliefs. “Wegmans really cares for and listens to the needs of its customers. That’s important to me. We go the extra mile to support our community,” states Palmer.

Wegmans achieves this goal by sponsoring community events, hosting in-store cooking events, donating to local farms, providing budget-friendly meals, educating customers on healthy living and sharing recipes and other healthy lifestyle tips. “We also provide incredible customer service and a one-of-a-kind shopping experience,” notes Palmer.

In addition to offering a wide selection of organic meats, dairy products and produce, the Wegmans Harrisburg store caters to special diets of all kinds. “Whether a customer is trying to manage diabetes, heart disease, lactose intolerance or food allergies, we can help. We’ve expanded our gluten-free section, and clearly labeled gluten-free foods can be found all over the store,” says Palmer. Wegmans Harrisburg has an extensive supplements aisle and a “Nature’s Marketplace” area filled with natural and organic grocery, dairy and frozen items.

Another store mission is to provide superior products at budget-friendly prices. “We pride ourselves on our private label Wegmans brand items,” says Palmer. “They are high quality, and many of the Wegmans Brand Italian Classic products are imported straight from Italy. The quality and taste of our Wegmans brand items are unmatched.”

Palmer is especially fond of Wegmans Eat Well Live Well campaign. “Eat Well Live Well inspires our employees, their immediate family and members of the community to get healthy,” explains Palmer. The program encourages people to eat five servings of fruits and vegetables daily, become more active, count calories and measure their progress. “Tracking progress inspires people to maintain their fitness levels and continue to eat better foods.” Eat Well Live Well is one more way that Wegmans helps the community to live better.
