Become a Host Family for Fresh Air Kids

Each summer, more than 4,000 inner-city children visit suburban, rural and small town communities across 13 states from Virginia to Maine and Canada through the independent, nonprofit Fresh Air Fund’s Volunteer Host Family program. Volunteer families in the Harrisburg area are needed to open their hearts and host low-income New York City children from 7 to 18 years old.

Summer of 2017 trip dates to the Harrisburg area include July 5 through 12; July 14 through 28; (one week only for new hosts July 20 through 28); and August 10 through17. Fresh Air children are registered by more than 90 participating social service and community organizations located in disadvantaged neighborhoods in the five boroughs of New York City.

Children on their first visit are between 7 and 12 years old and stay for one week. Children that are re-invited by host families may continue through age 18 and enjoy extended trips. The Fresh Air Fund has provided free summer experiences to more than 1.8 million New York City children from low-income communities since 1877.
