Comprehensive Massage Therapy, in Lemoyne, is now offering oncology massage. Owner and Licensed Massage Therapist Keith Beighley, a member of the Society for Oncology Massage, explains that oncology massage is more than following a series of techniques or protocols.

“It is the ability of the properly trained therapist to know what questions to ask of someone with cancer with regard to their health history and whether the person has just been diagnosed or is currently in treatment, as well as for those at the end of life,” he states. “Then, based on those answers and the client’s unique circumstance, making the necessary changes to the session to safely work within clinically established guidelines to support the well-being of the client.” Beighley notes that if someone has cancer or a history of cancer treatment and wants to get a massage, it is important that they find someone trained in oncology massage. Possible issues include bone integrity, vital organ involvement and compromised lymph nodes.
