Buddhist Retreat Emphasizes Compassion

The annual Buddhist retreat with Oryoki Zendo Integrative Mindfulness Therapies will take place from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., June 5, at the Amethyst Retreat Center. The morning will be spent participating in a Forest Bathing, or Shinrin Yoku in Japanese, where participants are led on a gentle, guided walk that nurtures body, mind and spirit through sensory immersion in natural surroundings. Using time and space with present moment awareness, participants will mindfully engage the senses to let go, relax, wander, breathe deeply, touch, listen, connect and heal.

After lunch, activities include a dharma talk and liturgy, concluding with a hanamatsuri (flower festival), which is a celebration of the birth of Shakyamuni Buddha, acknowledging the teachings of compassion, loving kindness, joy and equanimity: the four noble truths.

Suggested donation is $45; bring a lunch or food to share with others. Location: 44 Buffalo Creek Rd., Duncannon, PA. For more information, call 717-514-3082 or visit OryokiZendo.com.
