Rafiyqa Muhammad

Name: Rafiyqa Muhammad

City: Harrisburg

Age: 60 years young

Exercise tip: Try African dance.

Meal/food tip: Eat one meal a day.

Must-have daily snack: My must have daily snack is fruit—all kinds.

Best healthy lifestyle advice received: The best advice I have received is to drink plenty of water, and to make sure to take time for myself.

Biggest health accomplishment: Maintaining a healthy life style and eating as clean as possible.

Rafiyqa was nominated by a friend who said the following about this month's winner: "She has always had a passion for anything natural from food to herbs, dance to meditation, and essential oils to soaps. Over the past five years, Rafiyqa has partnered with the Boys and Girls club to teach what she knows to the next generation. She has helped students grow community gardens in the Harrisburg Schools, at the Boys and Girls club and in surrounding neighborhoods. The vegetables that are grown are then given to the families of the children that participate. Anything left over is sold to the community, and proceeds go back into the next harvest. I wish I had a tenth of her passion."

What led you to grow community gardens? I want to teach families how to restore Mother Earth and eat healthy again.
