Buddhist Temple Opening in Carlisle

The Blue Lotus Buddhist Temple will open in November at 51 North Pitt Street, in Carlisle. Area residents will have the opportunity to learn Buddhism from Bhante Soma, a Theravada Buddhist monk born in Sri Lanka, who has been studying since he was 10 years old.

Theravada is the most ancient branch of Buddhism still surviving today. Soma teaches and leads meditations throughout the week, and is available for house blessing, baby blessing, performing marriage ceremonies and private counseling sessions.

Buddhist practices and meditation are a means of cultivating mindfulness in order to develop the qualities of awareness, kindness and wisdom.
