Ab-solute Fitness & Nutrition : A Personal Approach to Wellness

Sep 01, 2014 06:18PM ● By Erin Lehn Floresca

Jami Shields, owner of Ab-solute Fitness & Nutrition, in Carlisle, wasn’t always a fitness guru. In fact, less than a decade ago, she was an overweight mom raising two children while her husband was serving duty in Iraq. “During this time, my dear friend’s mother passed of cancer,” recalls Shields. “She got inspired to run a long-distance race in her mother’s honor and asked me to join her.” At first, Shields didn’t know how she was going to do it, but to her delight, discovered she loved training. “I really enjoyed my runs. Plus, the three months of training completely transformed my body. I felt amazing and was getting compliments left and right.”

In 2009, a chance meeting in a locker room changed the course of her life. “I was approached by a woman who convinced me to start competing in bodybuilding competitions,” says Shields. “I loved it. I’m competitive by nature, and competing gave me a purpose in the gym.”

It didn’t take long before she won her first competition. After that, Shields decided it was time to get certified. “Although I was on my way to becoming a school principal, I realized that I truly wanted to educate others on health and fitness.” In 2011, she became a certified personal trainer and began working one-on-one with clients.

Eventually, the opportunity arose for her to open her own studio. “It’s been nothing but amazing,” says Shields. “I’ve been able to help so many people transform their lives.” Her motto? “The body achieves what the mind believes,” she says. “If you get yourself in the right mindset, you can change anything about your life.”

Now Shields, along with her team of seven other men and women trainers, spends her time helping others reach their health and fitness goals. The studio offers super-affordable personal training and nutritional counseling packages. “We’re devoted to developing personal relationships with each of our clients, so we can truly help them reach their health and fitness goals.”

One feature unique to Ab-solute Fitness & Nutrition is their outdoor gym area. “We think it’s important to spend as much time outdoors as possible,” says Shields. “So we’ve created an outdoor space that features some really neat equipment like heavy ropes, tires—even a sled.”

Shields loves how motivated her clients are to make healthy improvements in their lives. “Once they come in, they’re ready to take their fitness goals to the next level,” she says. “They inspire me on a daily basis.” And her clients are inspired by her.
