Apr 29, 2013 12:57PM ● By Beth Davis

A nonprofit, volunteer-based organization dedicated to the development of inner peace through the study and practice of Buddha’s teachings, the Kalpa Bhadra Kadampa Buddhist Center provides a year-round program of meditation classes, workshops and retreats that offer practical advice on how to apply those teachings to daily life.

Erica Richardson, the center’s resident teacher, says the ultimate goal is to increase one’s happy state of mind by increasing his or her inner peace. She leads guided meditation classes at 10 a.m., 12:15 p.m. and 7 p.m., Tuesdays, that are designed to give a broad introduction to Buddhist meditation, ideas and practice and help people overcome anger, stress, jealousy or anxiety and increase their positive mind.

In Simply Meditate, at 7 p.m. on Thursdays, participants learn the basic principles of meditation according to the Buddhist tradition, as well as the fundamentals of building a successful meditation practice that will bring positive benefits to their life. “These classes are open to anyone that would like to develop more happiness, be more peaceful and improve relationships with others—you don’t have to be a Buddhist,” says Richardson.
