Healthy World Café to Open Full-Time in York

Since 2012, Healthy World Cafe has served delicious, local, fresh food to more than 4,000 patrons, regardless of their ability to pay. Its pay-how-you-can philosophy, in which people eating a good meal in a welcoming, non-stigmatized place is given priority over the ability to pay the check, has found tremendous success.

Monthly lunches at York’s First Moravian Church have allowed the organization to grow with regard to delicious food, active volunteers and board members, and engaged local farmers. The model is working. Now they are asking the community for continued support to raise funds to open five days a week in their new space at 24 South George Street, in York.

They’ve launched a crowdfunding campaign through IndieGoGo that aims to raise $15,000 in the next five weeks. IndieGoGo allows community members to contribute at whichever level they’re able – from $10 to $5,000 increments – all with incentives for each level of contribution.
