Creating an Inclusive & Accessible Yoga Class

A Workshop & CE Class for Teachers, Fitness Pros, and Students

This workshop is for the Student, Yoga Instructor, or Fitness Professional that would like to deepen their understanding of creating accessible movement classes for everyBODY.  Not only will physical anatomy movements be covered, but also the important aspects of engagement including how communication impacts the comfort of the individuals you are working with and how self-talk impacts your experience.  This YA CCE course is an important addition to your toolkit expanding your Student/ Client horizons, engagement, safety, and overall results for wellness.   Both Saturday and Sunday will include asana practice, so please dress in comfortable clothing. You will also need to have the following props at the ready: Two Blocks – No blocks? No problem. Try a thick book with a rubber band around it. Or an unopened amazon box. Or DVD cases rubber banded together. A Bolster – Or rolled up towels/blankets. Or couch pillows. Or bed pillows. A Yoga Strap – Or a belt. Or scarf. Or a dog leash. Blanket or a large Towel. We will be adapting poses to a chair and the wall, so please have access to both. If you don’t have a moveable chair, a sofa/ottoman/armchair/bed will be fine. Have something to write on and with, as well as water. We will be taking plenty of breaks.


In this workshop we will explore ways to create a Yoga class that is truly All Levels, accessible to anyone who walks through the door. Through discussion, Asana practice, and self study we will... Find ways to create opportunities for communities that are underserved in mainstream Yoga. Examine the influence that diet culture has on the Yoga industry, and why representation in marketing is crucial. Give agency back to the student, through trauma informed teaching and consent to touch. Use the power of Language to encourage, rather than discourage. Explore Asana from the perspective of Support and Space. Learn ways to support students with Chronic Illness This workshop is for everyone! Yoga Teachers, Movement Instructors, and Students who want to create and celebrate a more inclusive culture of Yoga.
