Om My Yoga: Supporting Healthier, More Balanced Lives
A welcoming studio that appeals to people of all ages, Om My Yoga, in Camp Hill, is a fresh, modern space where students can come for support in living a healthier and more balanced life. Studio owner Rachel Wilson, an Experience Registered Yoga Teacher (E-RYT500) and
Wilson has been expanding the business since it opened three years ago, making sure that every student feels cared for and that they are a part of a community that supports them in feeling better each day. Om My Yoga is now expanding into the community through programs in corporate settings, hospitals and schools. “We want more people to enjoy the benefits of yoga and regardless of their background, to realize that we will take them under our wing and help them to restore their physical and mental health, and even ease issues of depression, anxiety and high stress levels through this practice,” she says.
The studio is comprised of two adjoining rooms; one large open studio area where yoga and Pilates mat classes are held, and another smaller room for Pilates reformer and aerial yoga classes that utilize silk hammocks designed to support more than 1,000 pounds to hold students while they perform therapeutic and inverted poses that they may not otherwise be able to do. Om My Yoga even offers AcroYoga, a hybrid of acrobatics and yoga, practiced by two or more people.
Wilson believes that we store our mental and emotional tension in our physical bodies and that yoga can help release this held tension while providing an opportunity for people to return to an awareness of their bodies and their often-overlooked inner experience. She states, “The rewards and benefits are so great. Everybody who starts a practice, no matter what their condition is at the beginning, is always grateful they have added yoga to their life. In many cases, it gives them back their life.”
Wilson is also founder of Om My Yoga Academy, a Yoga Alliance-registered yoga school. Two six-month teaching training sessions, taught in three-day segments once a month, are offered annually. The stimulating curriculum includes daily yoga classes and the study of postures, anatomy, subtle energy, the chakra system, yoga history, philosophy, meditation, mantra and restorative yoga.
