Tai Chi Tip

José Johnson, owner of José Johnson’s Chinese Martial Arts & Wellness Center, in Harrisburg, offers this simple Tai chi exercise that can aid in feeling centered or grounded.

Standing Post
• Stand with feet separated about hip width.
• Raise arms in front of body with palms facing in, as if holding a big ball.
• Relax hips and knees into a very slight squat, as if sitting on a stool.
• Hold the pose for one to five minutes, while breathing deeply. Imagine that your feet are the roots of a tree going deeply into the ground, your head is being drawn to the sky and the “ball” between your arms is expanding with every exhalation.
