A Daily Dose of Gratitude

“When we focus on our gratitude, the tide of disappointment goes out and the tide of love rushes in.” – Kristin Armstrong Savola

The theme for this year-end holiday issue is “Uplifting Humanity”. Inside and online, you’ll find articles that inspire, educate and motivate action in the world, and where it may be most important — action within.

The recent Thanksgiving holiday was an annual opportunity to gather with family and friends to express collective thanks along with those we love. It is no surprise that gratitude is center stage again this month as a means to uplift ourselves and humanity.

Our feature story shares, “A study published in Applied Psychology: Heath and Well-Being shows that gratitude can increase self-esteem and long-term well-being, leading to greater fulfillment in myriad areas of life. Throughout the year, gratitude can help shift perspectives on everyday circumstances and remind us of what really matters.”

In a recent episode of the podcast Making Space with Hoda Kotb, she talked with Rainn Wilson, author of Soul Boom—Why We Need a Spiritual Revolution. He offered in part, “The Buddhists do it very well by living in the moment, cherishing each breath, living in gratitude for what we have; all the faith traditions urge us toward being of service to other people—kind of living in a humble awe of the universe on a daily basis.

“I have a little gratitude text chain with some buddies, and every morning we text to each other five things we’re grateful for and it’s amazing how I can just be grumpy and then I do five gratitudes and it shifts the axis just a teeny bit toward simple appreciation. It doesn’t have to be huge or profound. Living in awesome gratitude is hard, but when we get little touches of it, it starts to seep into our dailyness.”

Deepak Chopra is interviewed in our Wise Words department, and asserts that the mind and body are inseparably one. He says, “The greatest gift of self-awareness is to live with love, truth, beauty and bliss as your goal.” Chopra believes that our existence itself is a perpetual surprise worthy of gratitude, sharing, “What I am grateful for is that I exist.”

It can be challenging to stay positive and keep our nervous systems regulated in today’s world. Thank you for being here and using the resources available from our advertisers for your self-care. Consider using daily gratitude to inspire your personal journey and uplift humanity as you continue to feel good, live simply and laugh more.
