Bare Foot Organics Now USDA Certified

Bare Foot Organics, LLC (BFO) at Greystone Farm, a cooperative community-supported agriculture (CSA) project in Lebanon County, has been certified organic by the United States Department of Agriculture. 2011 marks BFO’s third growing season but its first as an officially certified organic CSA.

BFO sells its produce to local Lebanon and Lancaster County businesses such as the Hershey Hotel, Niko’s, Fratelli Trattoria, Karns Markets, Foodland and the Cornwall-Lebanon School District. Beginning this season, BFO will also sell to restaurants in New York City, including Print and Gustorganics, the city’s only 100-percent organic restaurant; Savoia and Ted & Honey Café, in Brooklyn; and restaurants in Manhattan.

For individual consumers, BFO offers a 22-week CSA program. The on-farm CSA pick-up will be available every Wednesday afternoon beginning in June and continuing through early November. A full-share box of certified organic produce will be available for $600 per season, or $27.27 per week. A half- or medium-share box will be available for $425 per season or $19.31 per week.

BFO President Phillip J. Stober says, “Our CSA program is a great way to lower each individual’s carbon footprint and contribute to the sustainable farm and food movement. Besides the health benefits, there is the reality of actually making a difference in the world.”
