Natural Awakenings South Central Pennsylvania

Events Raise Funds and Awareness for Homeless Animals

The Central Pennsylvania Animal Alliance (CPAA) will host the Grateful Dog Walk and 5K Run at City Island, in Harrisburg, at 9:30 a.m., September 18. Now in its sixth year, the Walk is an easy, one-mile stroll around City Island. The 5K Run, in its first year, will circle City Island, and then cross the Walnut Street Bridge and loop around the Capital Area Greenbelt.

From there, all are invited to attend WoofStock: A Groovy Day of Peace, Love, Music, Fun and Drool, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., at Riverfront Park, in Harrisburg. A festival for dogs and their companions, the day will include the Rescue Me Adoptable Mutt Strut, Funkytown Pet Contest, agility demos, low-cost vaccine clinic, ice cream socials, food and animal-friendly vendors.

Attendees can meet Oogy and his guardian Larry Levin, author of the bestseller, Oogy, the Dog Only a Family Could Love, as well as Rescue Ink, an army of tattooed, motorcycle-riding street guys that formed to aid in battling animal abuse and neglect and to assist existing animal welfare agencies and shelters. Wounded warrior Luis Carlos Montalvan and Tuesday, the golden retriever that saved him, will be on hand with copies of Montalvan’s book, Until Tuesday.

Proceeds from both events go toward CPAA member organizations, CPAA's Spay/Neuter and Vaccine Program and Hounds of Prison Education (HOPE) Program.
