Setting a New Green Bar for Excellence in Dry Cleaning

Quality Cleaners, Inc., a third-generation family-owned and operated business in Lemoyne, is raising the ecological and sustainability standard for dry cleaners in the commonwealth. The owners have invested in advanced equipment made by Multimatic to enable use of Systemk4, a groundbreaking, eco-friendly, dry-cleaning process and technology developed by the German company, Kreussler.

An organic, biodegradable solution replaces the most commonly used solvent for dry cleaning, perchloroethylene, or PERC, which has come under heavy scrutiny by the EPA and other environmental groups as a toxin and possible carcinogen. Both the federal government and individual states are in the process of banning the use of PERC, but Quality Cleaners is one of fewer that 100 dry cleaners nationwide that have voluntarily made the switch.

To mark the adoption of the new system October 3, the company celebrated with a Quality Goes Green celebration and ribbon-cutting for elected officials, customers and family, including a proclamation from Pennsylvania Governor Tom Corbett. The owners’ half-century-long dedication to the community, environment and the people of the state has resulted in being a small business industry leader in going green.
