Meditation in the Classroom

Apr 02, 2012 05:40PM

Dr. Brent Binder

Dr. Brent Binder, owner of Binder Chiropractic, was recognized by The Cap Times for bringing meditation into the university classroom. He starts each class with a mindfulness meditation. The practice began as a fun twist, but has developed into a progressive series of five-minute-meditations that lasts throughout the semester, including silent mindfulness and meditation videos on the classroom projector.

“Often, a meditation will pose the philosophical or energetic perspective of the lecture material,” says Binder. “Examples such as mindful eating and the digestive system or posture and the muscular system turn a normal science class into an empowering and applicable process.”

Binder is a chiropractor and lecturer at Penn State University, Middleton Campus. He teaches biology and anatomy and hosts workshops on meditation, medicinal herb gardening and many other general wellness practices.

Location: 856 Century Dr., Mechanicsburg. For more information call 717-697-1888 or email [email protected].
