Free Yoga For Veterans at Barefoot Yoga and Wellness Studio

Cindy Beers

Barefoot Yoga and Wellness Studio is offering Yoga for Veterans, a free class for U.S. Veterans, from 2 to 3 p.m., Saturdays.

“Yoga itself can be such a great tool for stress reduction—keeping the body healthy and transforming the very way of perceiving the world around you,” says class instructor and fellow Veteran Cindy Beers. “For many Veterans who have seen traumatic events, they need a way to have a positive spin on life. Yoga can help offer that.”

Owner Susan Kiskis, whose father was a World War II Vet and brother served in the Army Reserve, notes that many vets need to have their back toward the wall, know where the exits are and feel in control of their environment. “In this class, we will offer them that comfort, along with a way to start to release trauma that lingers in the body and mind,” she says. “Through a yoga practice, Veterans can learn to reconnect with themselves, be in the present moment and learn to feel comfortable in their environment.”
