YMCA Hosts April Events

The West Shore YMCA will be hosting a Move-A-Thon from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., April 6, benefiting the YMCA’s Annual Support Campaign and The ALS Association Greater Philadelphia Chapter. The day will include surprise guests, massage and the chance to win raffle prizes, such as products and services from local and national vendors. The Move-A-Thon will feature Zumba and R.I.P.P.E.D., two of the YMCA’s most popular group fitness classes. Participants can choose one workout or take part in the whole event. Each participant is asked to raise $30 to join in.

The YMCA will celebrate Healthy Kids Day from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., April 27, with a free event that includes active play and educational activities, such as a moon bounce obstacle course, open swim and gymnastics play, face painting and healthy snacks. The Healthy Kids Day, the YMCA’s national initiative to improve families’ health and well-being, takes place at 1,900 YMCAs throughout the country.

“At the West Shore Y, we know parents struggle to keep their kids physically and intellectually active every day,” says Jason Snyder, wellness and marketing director. “We want to help ensure fewer kids are at risk of childhood obesity and more kids excel in school. Healthy Kids Day will get kids moving and learning, while also helping families get a jump on creating a healthier summer, and ultimately a healthier future.”
