Spirit of Oneness Wellness Event in Harrisburg

The third annual Spirit of Oneness wellness event takes place from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., October 5 and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., October 6, at Zembo Shrine, in Harrisburg. The event is both a venue for holistic vendors and workshops presented to help promote wellness and better living. “This is an opportunity for attendees to experience and sample alternative modalities and receive information that can help them take responsibility for their own healthcare,” says Sharon Muzio, the event’s creator and organizer.

Keynote speaker Susan Silberstein, Ph.D., presents Fight Cancer with Your Fork! at 1 p.m. on Saturday, a lecture on the advantages of using nutrition in a cancer treatment program. The topic is in line with this year’s theme Living and Eating Healthy. Silberstein is founder and president of the Center for Advancement in Cancer Education, and was a leading source in the Natural Awakenings August feature article, “Rethinking Cancer.”  At 1 p.m. on Sunday, Sharon Marquart, a certified life coach and director of Living at Yes, will address the audience on connecting to the spirit within while making changes in their lives.

Other workshops throughout the weekend will provide information about illness prevention and fostering an environment of wellness and peacefulness for the entire family, including pets. “More people are becoming mindful of their journey to wellness instead of waiting for a doctor to cure an illness,” says Muzio. “This event is a great opportunity for people to receive good information.”

More than 50 vendors will be showcasing their holistic products and services, as well as a strong local commitment from companies providing outreach services. Pinnacle Health will be offering free blood pressure and bone density screenings; the Central PA Blood Bank will hold a blood drive on Sunday; Domestic Violence Prevention for the YWCA will inform event attendees about the connection between stress and illness; Rite Aid pharmacy will offer flu shots and other wellness initiatives both days; PA Breast Cancer Coalition will be passing out information; and Vitamin Shoppe giveaways will be distributed to all in attendance.

Each day, healthy breakfast and lunch choices, including vegetarian options, will be available for purchase. Entertainment consists of the Harrisburg Harp Orchestra and musician David Rose playing sets of relaxing, calming music during each session. The event will culminate on Sunday afternoon with a fun, liberating free-movement dance, led by the Egyptian Moon Dance Company.
