Just a few years ago, Amy Roland, owner of A Roland Salon, in New Cumberland, was a hardworking, driven haircare professional who was unaware she would soon be opening her own salon. However, in December 2012, she did just that. “I thought I would do something like this later in life,” she recalls. “I wasn’t even sure I was ready; but I went ahead and made the choice to do it and everything fell into place.”

Roland is now one of those entrepreneurs that wakes up every day excited to go to work. “I truly feel like the salon is an extension of my home. It’s a place where I can come in and be artistic, creative and help others,” she says, adding that making personal connections is one of her favorite aspects. And she’s not the only one feeling that way. Salon team members and clients gush about the friendly social aspect of the salon, as well.

One feature that makes this community-centric salon stand apart from the rest is the exclusive use of Aveda products. “I discovered Aveda more than eight years ago while working at another salon,” explains Roland. “I fell in love with the company’s culture and concepts, like beauty is in everything, fair trade sourcing, giving back to the community and taking only what you need. Plus, the products deliver. You get amazing results, naturally.”

Because it’s important to Roland that her team values community and the environment, she believes the Aveda philosophy fits in perfectly with the vibe at A Roland Salon. “I’ve noticed that people attracted to working in the beauty industry love to help others. All of us here are passionate about what we do,” she says. “We offer a healthy beauty focus in an intimate, welcoming environment.”

Roland and her team believe that a visit to the salon should be a pleasurable and relaxing sensory experience. “We enjoy pampering our clients,” she says. “That’s why every service includes a neck and shoulder massage.” Because Roland’s main focus is on keeping her clients happy, she makes sure there is a qualified stylist available for every schedule and budget. “Each person who comes through these doors is a salon guest. If your usual stylist is unavailable, you can use one of the other stylists. We’re not territorial, and there are always stylists available at each pricing level to ensure a match for each guest. It’s about making those connections and making our clients feel valued during their visit with us.”

A Roland Salon is located at 516 Bridge St., in New Cumberland. For more information, call 717-695-4425 or visit ARolandSalonStudio.com.
