Workshop on Physiologic Impact of Stress

The Center for Holistic Medicine will present Breath, Body and Mind: A Workshop for Reducing Stress, Anxiety and Pain, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., September 22. Facilitators include Bonnie Berk, MS, RN, HNB-BC, ERYT, a board-certified holistic nurse and 2015 recipient of Professional of the Year award from Partnership for Better Health; and Katarzyna Ferraro, M.D., ABIHM, FACEP, a functional medicine practitioner at the Center for Holistic Medicine.
This interactive workshop will lead participants through understanding how the breath and body are linked and how tapping into our breath with positive intention helps to nourish relaxation, cultivate mindful awareness and create a more joyful life. They will Explore the connections between breathing patterns and stress, tension, pain and anxiety.
Topics include psychoneuroimmunology, how the mind and neurological system affect the immune system and other bodily functions; the body's stress response mechanism, fight-or-flight; how breathing affects physiology; qigong exercises for balance; and the science behind Heartmath, including a demonstration.
