Versatile Lavender Essential Oil Supports Summer Activities

May 26, 2017 09:54PM ● By Jen & Jeff Fry

Lavender has been cherished for its unmistakable aroma and beneficial properties for thousands of years. In ancient times, the Egyptians and Romans used lavender for bathing, relaxation, cooking and as a perfume.

Lavender essential oil is often considered a must-have to keep on hand at all times due to its versatile uses. It supports the skin for sunburn, bug bites and seasonal challenges, and soothes occasional skin irritation, as well as easing feelings of muscle tension. Apply one to two drops to the affected area, avoiding contact with eyes, inner ears and sensitive areas. Dilute with doTERRA Fractionated Coconut Oil to minimize any skin sensitivity.

To freshen up a space, combine lavender essential oil with water in a spray bottle or use three to four drops in a diffuser. After an invigorating summer adventure, lavender applied to the temples and the back of the neck may help relieve stress. To promote a restful night’s sleep, a few drops of lavender may be added to pillows, bedding or the bottoms of feet.

doTERRA lavender oil may be used in cooking to soften citrus flavors and add a flavorful twist to marinades, baked goods and desserts. The recommended usage for dietary addition is to dilute one drop in four fluid ounces of liquid.

doTERRA labels essential oil bottles where appropriate for internal use. Not all essential oils are tested and held to the same standard of therapeutic quality. Consumers cannot expect that other essential oils are safe to use aromatically, topically or internally unless the manufacturer labels the bottle accordingly. It is recommended to keep essential oils out of reach of children, and that pregnant or nursing women or people under a doctor’s care consult a physician prior to use.
