Keeping a Home Clean Naturally

Mar 26, 2018 07:59PM ● By Jen & Jeff Frey

A practical, simple and efficient way to keep toxic products out of the home is to make household cleaners using natural and inexpensive ingredients that are safe and eco-friendly. Certain essential oils are beneficial ingredients because they are antibacterial, anti-fungal, antiviral and antibiotic, which means they can naturally kill germs, bacteria, mold and fungi.

Use these recipes to deodorize, freshen and clean surfaces, materials and rooms within the home.

Powder Cleanser

1 cup borax

1 cup washing soda

1 cup baking soda

1 cup kosher salt

20 drops lemon essential oil

Mix all ingredients in a large bowl. To use, first spray surface with white vinegar and then sprinkle powder over the area. Let sit for 15 to 30 minutes. Wipe clean.

Glass and Window Cleaner

3 Tbsp white vinegar

1 Tbsp distilled water

5 drops lemon essential oil

Spray on and wipe off with crumpled newspaper or squeegee.

Laundry Detergent

1 bar Fels-Naptha heavy duty laundry bar

1 cup borax

1 cup washing soda

Lavender or orange essential oil

Grate laundry bar with cheese grater. Mix all items together into a storage container with lid. Scoop out 1 tablespoon for each load into regular or High Efficiency (HE) machines.
