Drumming at Studio Solomon

Tammi Hesson

For those interested in djembe and West African drumming, Studio Solomon, in Lemoyne, is now offering new beginner classes, a more progressive path for learning and more options for drummers of different experience levels. “Summer has been a perfect starting time for beginners, with our introduction of a four-week Beginner Djembe Drumming series that offers a shorter commitment than our previous beginner series,” says studio owner and instructor Leigh Wisotzkey. “Beginners are already taking their new skills to local drum circles, and most are planning to pursue additional West African drumming opportunities.”

Drumming is fun and brings people together. Each individual player contributes to the whole piece of music. Faces light up, people feel good, and the whole experience is valuable well beyond drumming. Instructor Tammi Hessen has traveled to Mali and Guinea to study drumming, as well as a number of teachers in the U.S.

Whether people are looking to learn just enough to have more fun at a drum circle, seeking an ongoing activity that is fun and social or gaining a more educational experience, the Studio Solomon drumming program now offers a wider selection.
