The Community Alliance For Responsible Eco-farming (CARE) will present the Ninth Annual Family Days on the Farm from 4 to 8 p.m., July 24, and 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., July 25, at The David Lapp Farm.

Highlights include educational seminars, homemakers advice, farmstead ideas, children's activities including a Petting Zoo and Corn Box, healthy baking, vegetable growing and more. After a Friday night keynote address, Saturday will provide more than 30 workshops, panel discussions and keynotes about homemaking, gardening, farmsteading, human health and nutrition and horses, as well as dairy demonstrations and children's activities.

Kathleen Reiff, event coordinator, states “COVID-19 has generated an explosion of interest in everything that Family Days has been offering for 8 years. We’re hopeful that people will spread the word about this event, especially to anyone who may be considering the path to self-sufficiency and community resilience.”

Family Days on the Farm has the support of various local business owners, including Willa Lefever, from Sonnwald Natural Foods in Spring Grove. Lefever says, "I think  there is much we can learn from the Amish about living well. I have concerns about the destructive path human beings are on. I’m also concerned that our children and young people are spending way too much time on electronic devices instead of developing their creativity, critical thinking and problem solving skills.

"This year's event provides answers to questions that Covid-19 has made relevant for many of us. I think Family Days is a huge blessing to our region and we need excellent attendance to make it a success.

"This event will be well-marketed within the Amish community. We need as much help as we can rally for promoting Family Days to the non-Amish community. I urge everyone to share the information and to visit with their friends and families."

CARE endeavors to provide an educational basis that promotes down-to-earth ways to bring forth nutrient-dense food for homesteaders and farmers alike, while supporting sustainable and simpler lifestyles that promote cohesive, economical and healthy rural living skills, enabling future generations to farm with a positive attitude and a strengthened motivation.
