Anti-Racism Resources

As explained in the Letter from the Publisher this month, I’m looking in the mirror and diving into a period of learning and self-reflection around race, personal bias and social injustice.

Following are several compiled resource guides from Black authors that may be of interest to you in your personal journey of self-reflection.

Reading List

This reading list by Arielle Grey is a great place to start. She writes, “[A]n important part of learning about racism is realizing that no reading list can do the work for you. Learning and excommunicating your internalized racism is a lifelong process that requires intense self-study and determination.”

Resource Guide

If you’d like to dive deeper, Tasha K. Ryals compiled this shareable anti-racism guide. It includes suggested pre-reading, memoirs, essays, and resources on immigration, indigenous studies, Latinx studies, and more.

Resource List

This guide on anti-racism for beginners, now under the leadership of Tiffany Bowden, PhD, is also tremendous.  It has articles, definitions, terms to understand, books to read, Black educators and leaders to follow, and other ways you can take action.

There is a lot of information available. So much so that it can be overwhelming if you try to digest it all at once. Choose one item. Begin. Read. Listen. Have an open mind. Discuss. Shift your awareness. Take action. Repeat.

The lists provided above were originally offered and sourced by MarieForleo.com.

Mental Health & Addiction

Here is an additional guide provided by Sunshine Behavioral Health that was created to discuss Mental Health Issues Facing the Black Community.

Also available is a directory for finding free mental health and addiction treatment options in your area.

Wealth Gap Information

Closing the racial wealth gap in America isn't a simple fix.
Many experts say education and financial literacy can help.
To shed light on the topic, Annuity.org has created an in-depth article discussing:

- The impact that this knowledge gap has on the African American community
- Socioeconomic and cultural barriers
- The role of Black financial advisors

In an effort to educate all readers, regardless of race, read Financial Literacy in the Black Community.
