New Half-Pint Corner at Palmyra

Feb 28, 2021 08:53PM ● By Dave Korba
Palmyra Real Food Emporium is turning the herb garden in the front yard into a teaching area to acquaint customers with fresh herbs and encourage cooking with them. It will also serve to teach children about growing and cooking fresh food. Owner Tom Maurer says, “We wanted to teach kids and adults to grow and cook fresh food. Studies have shown that kids are more likely to eat things they grew, so we decided to combine these two goals and start the Half Pint Corner to help kids of all ages learn to grow, harvest, prepare and enjoy food.”

Maurer wants to get patrons’ input on the planning to determine the level of interest for ordering plants and seeds. This will be a hands-on learning center, not a day care. Sessions will likely be every Saturday, or every other Saturday for one hour. An adult must accompany any child under 10 years old, and groups are limited to six to eight kids.

A $25 donation will be collected with registration for the whole season to cover the cost of supplies. Location: 707 E. Broad St., Palmyra. For more information or to provide input, call 717-813-0860, email [email protected] or visit Tinyurl.com/PalmyraRealFood.
