Passion, Practice and Perfection at YOUR YOGA

Jul 29, 2022 09:31AM ● By Martin Miron
The Your Yoga studio provides many styles of yoga classes, specialty workshops, sound meditation, mindfulness meditation and reiki. Owner and Yoga Alliance-registered yoga teacher Cynthia Johannes-Beecher is certified in adaptive and prenatal yoga and mindfulness for daily living, and is also a certified aromatherapist. She holds a bachelor’s degree in pharmacy and a master's degree in healthcare administration.

Your Yoga is a small, intimate studio with a 10 student maximum in order to offer personalized attention and support. The studio is soothing, non-cluttered, open and holds a non-judgmental space for students to practice. "We offer something monthly at no charge and welcome every body type to practice here. We have yoga mats and props for students to borrow. We have a library of books and magazines for students borrow. We also have a private bathroom, kitchen space and a retail boutique," says Johannes-Beecher.

She states, "My goal was to teach yoga in my retirement. I retired in 2020, leaving a 35-year career in health care to pursue my dream of sharing yoga with our community. I have practiced throughout my life and began a dedicated practice several years back. Once I retired, I enrolled in yoga teacher training at My Vinyasa Practice, located in Austin, Texas. Once I had my certifications, my true passion was to teach yoga in a small, non-judgmental, safe and nurturing studio.

Your Yoga provides classes in Gentle Yoga, Gentle Vinyasa, Gentle Stretching Yoga, Hatha Yoga, Vinyasa Flow, Chair Yoga, Yoga Nidra, Yin Restorative Yoga, Children’s Yoga workshops and Restorative Yoga with Sound. Other services include sound meditation, Introduction to Meditation, mindfulness meditation and reiki. There are two additional teachers with their own specialty areas.

"Teaching yoga is our passion, and being able to offer a variety of styles of yoga opens up the door for anyone who wants to do yoga. The small class size gives focus to each student, no matter where they are in their practice, from the first-time student to the seasoned practitioner. Support is there for them at every class. Our specialty classes and workshops allow for a deeper dive into areas of interest for students," says Johannes-Beecher. “Listening to our students is key and truly making them feel that their yoga journey is our passion.” She feels that honoring the yamas and niyamas that are the foundations of yoga practice ranks as one of her biggest accomplishments.

She explains, "Getting the word out to the community about Your Yoga, where we are located, and what we can offer students, no matter what they are looking to gain in better well-being for their body and mind," is her biggest challenge. "Having a passion for sharing yoga through teaching, the addition of talented and equally passionate teachers and offering a small studio that feels relaxing and welcoming as soon as you walk in the front door," is something she finds quite satisfying. "Our students' word of mouth sharing has been huge, and the support of the West York community has been amazing."

Her short-term plans include welcoming more students to the studio to fill all the classes so they can be sharing yoga with as many as possible every day; beyond that, bringing on another yoga teacher. Your Yoga will be a vendor at the Holistic Expo on August 13 and 14 at the York Fair Grounds Memorial Hall to meet the public. Upcoming events and classes are featured on the website each month.
