After years of sharing West African dance in the Harrisburg area, Dwennimmen African Dance Community presents an All-Level Master Dance Class with traditional Malian dancer Souleymane “Solo” Sana at 2 p.m., April 15, at 5 Bridges Health & Fitness. The all-level class is open to anyone that wants to learn.

 

“Traditional West African dance from countries such as Guinea and Mali have been passed down from generation to generation and bring the community together,” says Lark Daniel, executive director of Dwennimmen. “Having a master teacher from the country of Mali is an incredible chance for us to learn more than just movement.”

 

Sana is committed to continuous research to maintain an accurate representation and disbursement of traditional information, movement and rhythm. As a former principal member of one of the premiere companies of Mali, Ballet Du District de Bamako, he is a leader among artists with an extensive knowledge of traditional dances of the Mande culture.
