Those interested in learning
about heart health to prevent or manage cardiovascular disease may attend a free
Penn State Extension online webinar for nutrition professionals, Exploring the
DASH Diet to Lower Your Blood Pressure, from noon to 1 p.m., February 2.
Registered dietitians and dietetic technicians can earn one credit of
continuing professional education units. The heart-healthy Dietary Approaches
to Stop Hypertension (DASH) eating plan is balanced, flavorful and flexible and
requires no special foods.
The plan recommends eating vegetables, fruits and whole grains; choosing fat-free or low-fat dairy products, fish, poultry, beans, nuts and vegetable oils; cutting back on foods that are high in saturated fats such as red meats, full-fat dairy products and tropical oils, including coconut, palm kernel and palm oils; choosing foods that are lower in sodium; and limiting sweets and sugar-sweetened beverages.
Admission is free when participants register at Tinyurl.com/DASH-Diet-Webinar, and they will receive access to the webinar recording.
