Natural Awakenings South Central Pennsylvania

Earth Day Festival in Mechanicsburg

The Downtown Mechanicsburg Partnership will sponsor the Mechanicsburg Earth Day Festival on April 20 on South Market Street between Main Street and Simpson Street in the historic district, with a focus on natural, organic, healthy living for all ages. Featuring environmental community organizations, the festival raises awareness of sustainable choices available in central Pennsylvania while conducting a waste-free, environmentally friendly event.

Replete with live music, community environmental groups and handmade products presented in a relaxing atmosphere, this family-friendly, pet-friendly event welcomes all that care about the Earth and its inhabitants. Environmentally friendly organizations and vendors will be on hand to answer questions, run activities for all ages and sell their wares. While Earth Day started nationally in 1970, Mechanicsburg has been having an Earth Day Festival for 12 years.

Green Queen Coordinator Susanna Reppert-Brill says, “The entertainment schedule includes Jonathan Frazier at 10 a.m.; James Klippel performing as Winter Parks at 11 a.m.; the Bumbada Women Drummers at noon; Dawn Zemaitis at 1 p.m.; and the Central PA Belly Dancers at 2 p.m. Smokey Bear will be here, along with The Normal Shrub—both are always entertaining. We also hold a rain barrel silent auction where the rain barrels are hand-painted to create functional art in the garden.”
