Continuing Education Opportunities for Bodywork Professionals

Joseph Lavine

Joseph Lavine, a licensed massage therapist at Chinese Bodywork, in Mechanicsburg, is offering continuing education courses for Asian bodyworkers and massage therapists. The four courses provide hands-on training designed to strengthen clinical skills and expand treatment options for licensed professionals. Offerings are well-timed as massage therapists prepare for licensure renewal, due at the end of January 2027.

Two courses—approved by the National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork—will be held at Lavine’s office, in Mechanicsburg, and are designed for practitioners with a background in Oriental medicine. Tui Na for Back Disorders and Pediatric Tui Na will explore the Chinese bodywork modality known as Tui Na, which is used for the remedial treatment of specific pathologies, primarily orthopedic disorders. The practice is commonly used in conjunction with acupuncture, herbal medicine and therapeutic exercise.

The other two courses—Orthopedic Assessment and Orthopedic Acupressure—are open to massage therapists with no previous training in Oriental medicine. These will be offered throughout Pennsylvania. Acupressure may be used to support symptom relief and overall well-being, while orthopedic assessment techniques can help practitioners more precisely identify injured structures.
