Stress is inevitable. While some navigate daily pressures with ease, others remain in a constant state of fight or flight. Chronic stress skyrockets cortisol levels and can be linked to a number of symptoms and diseases.
Reflexology is a noninvasive complementary treatment based on the principle that reflex areas in the hands and feet correspond to every gland, organ and system of the body. By stimulating these reflexes, practitioners aim to relax pressure on nerves and vessels, helping the body restore balance and support its innate ability to heal itself.
A balanced body requires optimal blood and nerve supply to every organ and gland. Glands and organs receive their instructions from nerve networks. If a network has a short circuit, pressure on the nerves and vessels may result, affecting the flow of blood and oxygen-rich nutrients to all parts of the body. By applying gentle pressure on the reflexes, overactive or underactive glands or organs may begin to return to a balanced state. Reflexology helps bring the body out of the fight-or-flight response.
A reflexology session can be very calming for both the mind and body, and the entire body will reap the benefits.
