Gratitude is the key to positive living every day, and this issue is highlighting it during the traditional month of Thanksgiving. Amid the busyness of daily life, we all have the opportunity to find and appreciate the joy abounding around us in ways that are large and small; obvious and subtle.

Family and friends remain at the center of my gratitude list. It’s been almost a decade since we started publishing Natural Awakenings. The children are grown, loved ones have passed and we’re all a bit older and wiser. Lifelong friends remain connected and new friends both personal and professional have blessed me with their beauty, kindness and caring.

I’m grateful for the team that works diligently each month to produce this magazine and for the opportunity to share Natural Awakenings with our readers and to serve our advertisers. This monthly endeavor feeds my soul and fulfills my sense of purpose as we continue to inform, educate and inspire readers to live their healthiest lives and help others along the way. I never tire of hearing the words, “I love your magazine.” It affirms our mission.

I’m also grateful for some of my favorite things, which include a good night’s sleep, vivid dreams, sleeping in on a rainy day, afternoon naps and early mornings lingering on the edge of waking while in a lucid dream. Of course, the common thread for this list is something we all need and desire – deep, regenerative sleep.

I’ve been more attentive to my need for quality sleep the last few years. Sometimes I experience an occasional night of tossing and turning that leads to an exhaustive next day, and if I’m not careful and overdo the caffeine, I risk altering my natural sleep cycle. Regular exercise, proper diet and hydration, stress reduction and good nighttime habits are just some of the basics that are vital for me to maintain good sleep hygiene. This month’s feature examines the many contributing factors to and adverse health effects of compromised sleep, along with natural suggestions for a good night’s rest.

Happy Thanksgiving! I am grateful for you and appreciate your reading each month. As the boat keeps merrily rowing down the stream, let’s keep rowing together through this dream called life as we continue to support each other by discovering and sharing ways to feel good, live simply and laugh more.
